Project Overview

The Squash Courts at the National Stadium, Surulere, were struggling with unreliable electricity, frequent power outages, and high operational costs. These disruptions severely impacted training schedules and tournament planning, leading to inefficiencies and dissatisfaction among athletes and facility managers. Recognizing these challenges, Exergie stepped in to implement a tailored solar energy solution that guarantees continuous power supply, enhances facility operations, and eliminates dependency on costly and unreliable diesel generators.

Needs Assessment

The National Stadium Squash Courts faced significant power-related challenges that hindered operations and created financial burdens:

  • Excessive fuel costs – The facility spent over ₦46,000 monthly on diesel to power generators.
  • Equipment vulnerabilities – Frequent generator part theft led to costly repairs and operational downtimes.
  • Unstable power supply – Irregular electricity availability disrupted scheduled training sessions and tournaments.
  • Failed past attempts – A previously installed solar system failed within five months, proving ineffective in solving the power issues.

Design Assessment

Exergie conducted a thorough site analysis to determine the most effective renewable energy solution for the Squash Courts. The assessment included evaluating energy consumption patterns, identifying inefficiencies in the previous system, and considering environmental factors. Based on these insights, Exergie developed a custom solar power system designed to maximize efficiency, ensure reliability, and provide a seamless transition from generator dependency to clean energy. conducted a site audit and designed a 3.5kVA Solar Transformer System tailored to the facility’s needs:

  • 9 Solar Panels (350W each) – Maximum energy capture and efficiency.
  • 3.5kVA Transformer-Based Inverter System – Stable and reliable power conversion.
  • Quad-Storage Battery Bank – Ensuring extended backup power.
  • Complete Lighting & Ventilation Power Supply – Maintaining optimal playing conditions.

Outcome

The implementation of Exergie's solar energy solution has led to significant improvements in operational efficiency and cost savings at the National Stadium Squash Courts:

  • ₦46,000+ Monthly Savings – The elimination of diesel costs has significantly reduced operational expenses.
  • 24/7 Electricity – Reliable, uninterrupted power ensures that training sessions and tournaments proceed smoothly without delays.
  • Zero Generator Dependency – The facility no longer faces issues related to fuel shortages, generator breakdowns, or theft of generator parts.
  • Enhanced Playing Environment – Consistent lighting and ventilation create optimal conditions for athletes, improving both performance and experience.

Environmental Impact

Switching to solar significantly improved sustainability and reduced environmental impact:

Client Feedback

The facility manager had this to say:

"The facility has enjoyed uninterrupted power since installation, and teams have expressed gratitude for the transformation. The reliable energy solution has significantly improved training schedules and tournament hosting."
